An accident at a soybean storage silo in Sergeant Bluff Monday left one man dead and four others injured.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., a man was reported trapped under the soybeans at the AGP plant at 2753 Port Neal Circle, said Gregory T. Logan, chief deputy of the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office.

Logan said five men were working inside a large concrete grain silo when the soybeans gave way and buried Matthew R. Ball, 20, of Manson, Iowa. When rescuers reached Ball, he was dead, Logan said.

The other four men were able to escape and were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

He said the five men were employed by a contractor.
